To qualify for an entry-level position in automotive design, you must have a minimum of a bachelor's degree in industrial design, architecture, mechanical engineering or automotive engineering technology. Many students precede their degree field work with a year of art and design training. Those who choose engineering as a major generally pursue a degree in mechanical engineering because automotive engineering is a subdiscipline of this field.
